As a Pre-visuliazation Director I get to design shots, create action sequences and work out how exactly things can be physically filmed. The coolest thing will be going to the theatre to watch a 200 million dollar picture and see sequences I actually created.
Cabin in the Woods
One of the smartest and funniest horror films ever made. Working on this film was a treat and I learned so much from Drew Godard and Joss Whedon about how to re-invent genre film-making. It was one of those projects that made me a better director because I was exposed to a dozen crazy ideas every day that pushed the medium forward.
District 9
Creating action sequences from hours of live-action footage and planning out all the CG elements for this ground-breaking science fiction film was a highlight of my career. Being a fan of hard sci fi all my life I couldn’t have been happier working on one of the smartest movies in the genre.
2012
Destroying the world in creative ways for this blockbuster from Roland Emmerich was VFX work at its most excessive and most fun. Everyday I would come into work and wonder what I was going to blow up today.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
A silly movie with serious VFX demands. This was the most technical project I ever worked on. The production used our previs to match their sets and cameras down to the centimeter so that the CG elements added in post-production would fit exactly. It was a lesson in meticulous planning and notation so that all the crews down-stream from us had a perfect blueprint to follow.
Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief
I love Greek mythology and had a ton of fun working on this feature bringing my favourite Greek gods to life. Here Poseidon remembers at the last minute that humans are a puny compared to gods and that he might want to shrink himself down if he wants to blend in.
